Tips for Beginning a Blog

Have you ever wanted to write a blog, personal or professional? Well, it can be a bit difficult, but with time and practice, you can find your footing—especially if you follow some of these tips!

1. Find your niche or passion.

What is it you want to talk about? Finding out exactly what you want your blog to discuss is a great place to begin. Having a bigger picture is the key to creating a successful blog. If your blog does not have a recurring theme, it may not help you build an audience. This is because a reader may want to read about your thoughts on current political issues because you wrote about it once, but it may not be a topic you really want to delve into. If you do not have a set theme and simply explore every topic that interests you, it is possible to drive away potential recurring readers. Stick to one major theme and find what subtopics you feel comfortable discussing.

2. Generate writing prompts.

Having prompts you wish to write about in advance can help you write for your blog more frequently. This way, you know what you wish to discuss before you have to write it out. You can also use these prompts to do more research on the topic or to delve deeper into a main topic and have shorter posts that discuss different sections of the same topic. For example, if your blog is focused on beauty tips, you can discuss one major beauty trend in multiple different ways. A big trend in beauty right now is the clean girl trend. You can then break this down and talk about how it affects the way people do their hair, their makeup, or present themselves socially. All of these are based on one prompt, but it has been stretched out for three separate blog posts.

3. Cover pop culture topics or trending topics.

When topics are trending, people tend to want to know more about it. And when they go to look it up, there is a possibility that your blog post would show on their search results which they may click on if the post seems enticing enough. Your blog can gain traction by doing this. Even if it isn’t the main focus of your blog, you can still use this to your advantage. If your blog is based on fashion, you can still include those fashion tidbits even when you are discussing something like a trending movie. You have a topic people are interested in learning more about, and you add your own touch to it.

4. Try to include blog posts that are easy to read.

Having posts that are outlines or quick reads are perfect to drive more interaction to your blog. Sometimes, people like to read in between tasks or on the way to work. Having short blog posts that are quick to read with a website that is easy to navigate is the key to having people stay on your post or your site.

With these tips, you can begin your blog and then adjust it as you move forward. A blog is the perfect way to showcase your talent, your interests, or your passions.
